Disfruté conocer la
ciudad, negociar sus diagonales, identificar sitios particulares donde no había
señalización; usar edificios, murales, monumentos o plazas, navegando de vuelta
a la residencia. En retrospectiva, creo que pasé mucho de mi tiempo mirando para
arriba, lo cual es llamativo porque nunca me encontré con una baldosa rota en
mi camino. Sin embargo, lo que es más interesante -y conciso- es que desde esta
perspectiva se me hizo posible ver la información escrita en las paredes con
aerosol, en las diferentes formas arquitectónicas que viven en la ciudad. Esto
me llevó a investigar más sobre La Plata y su contexto histórico. El trabajo
que desarrollé durante mi residencia es una respuesta a las diferentes formas
de información evidentes en la ciudad, tales como edificios y grafiti, pero esto
no excluye otras formas como sus árboles u otros aspectos naturales del paisaje
urbano. Esta información ha sido fundamental para mi práctica y constituirá una
fuente de inspiración vital en los próximos años.
Figures in the Urban Landscape
I enjoyed getting
to know this city, negotiating its diagonals, identifying particular landmarks
where there weren’t street signs; using buildings, murals, monuments or plazas,
in navigating my way back to the residency. In retrospect, I believe that I
spent much of my time looking up, which is interesting because I never tripped
over a loose or fractured tile on the footpath. However, what is more
interesting - and to the point - is that from this perspective I was able to
take note of the information often scribbled on walls with spray paint, or the
various architectural forms that inhabit this city. This usually led me to
further research about La Plata and its historical context. The work I
developed during my residency is a response to the different forms of information
evident in the city, such as its buildings and graffiti, but this does not
exclude other forms of information, such as trees, or other natural aspects of
the urban landscape. This information has been of pivotal importance to my
practice, and will provide a vital source of inspiration for years to
come.
