He utilizado materiales

Me

emprendimiento llamado Flete Arte.

The Travelling City

My work is a reflexion.

I focus my gaze on industrial constructive figures and places (open landscapes),

finding ways to work with both elements. I have used industrial materials, such as

ventilation ducts and measuring tapes, among others. I am interested in their

modular capacity and their brilliance to construct geometric, inactive and variable

forms. I create specific situations that I make concrete through sculptures, actions in

the landscape, audiovisual materials, photographs. Also with studies on the line,

limits, industrial traces, the ephemeral in relation to the human scale in the horizon

and space.

Dedicated to sculpture, I had the extreme need to move and transfer my art

wherever I needed to. I ended up specialising in transporting and arthandling works

and objects independently. I called friends for work and started a business called

Flete Arte. This has been a constant construction of work, something totally

necessary, done together with other artists, cultural workers and art producers in

general. Then I conceived Arthandler Chile, another proposal that seeks to function

as a support network for artists and that, for the moment, has worked in the setting

up of exhibitions.

I like to be in constant movement and Flete Arte allows me to resolve this as an

artist, developing a special eye, activating all my senses and working with my whole

body. But it also turns out to be a very emotional mission, with the natural fear that

comes with the moment of doing something very important, having to move

something of great value. I work with a responsibility. This could also be a constant

performance, a way of reflecting and solving practical problems of the objects

themselves. That is one of the things I have admired most, because of my own

interests as a sculptor.

Returning to my artistic production has been necessary after having learnt a lot with

the art of otters. I felt the need to return to sculpture and the search for new

learning. That's how I got to know the craft of jewelry, I was impressed by this new

world, which is now part of my life. I work with the same dialectics and functions of

the large format sculptures, but taken to the monumentality of small and brilliant

forms. I bring into play the perceptions of one as a person and those of the objects,

which lead to a new concept of spatiality.

The Rebirthing Project

Sometimes, when someone finds a new spiritual path, the say they are born again. Others, after a near-death experience, say they got a new chance at life. In nature, we can easily observe how decomposing matter is the foundation for new life.

Throughout many mythologies, the feminine aspect is associated with reproduction. It is wild, intuitive, creative force. Since I arrived at Residencia Corazón, I have been considering what it means to aim this creative force toward one’s self, in an intentional act of rebirth.

Is being born a one-time act, or does it happen many times throughout our life cycle? Like the way our bodies continuously shed dead skin cells and grow new ones, can we choose to let parts of our old identities go to discover who might rise from the ashes? When we understand the birth and death process not as a beginning and end, but as stopping points in an eternal cycle of transformation, can it change the way we live?

The Rebirthing Project is the first iteration of an ongoing experiment to create artwork with the capacity biodegrade rapidly, mimicking the organic life and death cycle of the natural world. The project combines personal concerns around aging and re/birthing processes with larger issues around interconnectivity, climate change and sustainability. All of the materials used in the exhibition are completely new to me and from this area: junco, mimbre, bioplastics made from algae and natural pigments. The forms take the vocabulary of wings, cocoons, organs and peeling skin, inviting the viewer to imagine themselves in this process of transformation.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Tamara Torres/ Light in Darkness/ noviembre-diciembre 2022

Light in Darkness

Creating art has always been a way of healing and changing perspective. Creating imaginary worlds that give you the sense to swim in them generates a moment of peace or truth in the viewer's eye. These abstract paintings are identified as “mindscapes” to Tamara Torres they are generated from a visual and emotional balance in conveying both the demoralization of the unspoken darkness within our inner anxieties yet offering a glimpse of the light within that brings a moment of hope. The paintings have a spiritual dimension and use religious symbols but are post-religion, each individual piece is instead a cry for mental sanctuary from any darkness that has surfaced from unwelcome encounters. The crosses are a symbol of connecting with something greater and a reminder of a woman in my life who believed above all there wasn’t one awful person in the world. The shadow people in my work are representative of those unspoken, forgotten, or how many identified as angels hidden in plain sight.  All of the techniques are pointed towards constructing art that is aesthetically and emotionally suffused with a truth that the view cannot changed. The goal of these mindscapes it’s to have the viewer find in the darkness the light that it’s built in themselves. The detailed paint palette that addresses my creative interest through a systematic relationship between color and emotional response. Tamara say’s ultimately, I seek a “truth” in my abstract “mindscape” paintings and collages. A relationship with the viewer which grips them immediately but also invites them to explore and have a non-representational visual language.

Tamara is an interdisciplinary Afro-Caribbean feminist artist, community activist, and mother based in the United States. Torre's artistic work is varied and presented in multiple mediums such as collaged narrative, abstract paintings, and performance. Her artistic practice knits together advocacy for women's rights, racial equity, and her own autobiographical experience. Producing vigorous conceptual paintings. Tamara has exhibited her art in NY, Philadelphia, Chicago, London, Italy, Edinburgh and Dubai.
