What it's like to write in La Plata,Buenos Aires, Argentina/ Residencia Corazón

La Plata is not Buenos Aires. That's the first thing writers notice when they arrive.

It's one hour by train — close enough to feel connected, far enough to feel different. A university city, a planned city, a city with its own rhythm. Wide streets lined with trees, parks designed on a grid, a national university that fills the city with students and academics and a particular kind of intellectual energy. Writers who come here to work tend to find it useful in ways they didn't expect.

Since 2006, Residencia Corazón has been welcoming writers, artists and curators to its house in the centre of La Plata. What we offer is not complicated: a room, a studio, time, and the people who run the residency — Juan Pablo Ferrer and Rodrigo Mirto — who come by every day, not to check on the work but to help with whatever the writer needs, whether that's a connection to someone at the university, a recommendation for where to read, or just a conversation about how the project is going.

 Some writers come with a project already underway. Others come to start something they've been putting off. Some come because they need distance from their usual context to hear their own work clearly. All of them find the house works in a particular way: it's shared with visual artists from other parts of the world, and that proximity — not forced, not structured — sometimes generates unexpected things. In May 2026, a poet from Singapore spent a month writing poems that emerged from his daily conversations with an Austrian painter who was working in the studio next door. He sent us the poems after he left.

 Applications are free and open year-round. We respond within 24 to 48 hours. If you need an official invitation letter for a grant or fellowship, we issue it the same day you request it.

La Plata no es Buenos Aires. Eso es lo primero que notan los escritores cuando llegan.

 Está a una hora en tren — lo suficientemente cerca para sentirse conectado, lo suficientemente lejos para sentirse diferente. Una ciudad universitaria, una ciudad planificada, una ciudad con ritmo propio. Calles anchas arboladas, parques diseñados en cuadrícula, una universidad nacional que llena la ciudad de estudiantes y académicos y una energía intelectual particular. Los escritores que vienen a trabajar acá tienden a encontrarla útil de formas que no esperaban.

Desde 2006, Residencia Corazón recibe escritores, artistas y curadores en su casa en el centro de La Plata. Lo que ofrecemos no es complicado: una habitación, un espacio de trabajo, tiempo, y las personas que dirigen la residencia — Juan Pablo y Rodrigo — que pasan todos los días, no a revisar el trabajo sino a ayudar con lo que el escritor necesite, ya sea una conexión con alguien de la universidad, una recomendación de dónde leer, o simplemente una conversación sobre cómo va el proyecto.

Algunos escritores llegan con un proyecto ya en marcha. Otros llegan para empezar algo que han ido postergando. Algunos llegan porque necesitan distancia de su contexto habitual para escuchar su propio trabajo con claridad. Todos encuentran que la casa funciona de una manera particular: se comparte con artistas visuales de otras partes del mundo, y esa proximidad — no forzada, no estructurada — a veces genera cosas inesperadas.
