El mundo es categorizado en
varias dicotomías: bueno / malo, hombre / mujer, liberal / conservador,
conocidos / desconocidos, etc. Estos binarios pueden ser útiles para la toma de
decisiones rápidas, para sentirse seguro y correcto, pero simplifican la realidad
en exceso. Los trabajos presentados en ejercicios en ABANDON/CONTROL responden
a las tensiones causadas por los
sistemas binarios de representación del
pensamiento. A partir de objetos encontrados (redes, bolsas, hilos, textos) que
representan formas de contener y asignar roles, aplico los procesos de
transformación (monoprint, extracción) para crear expresiones poéticas de
subversión, la exploración y la reinvención.
Billi London-Gray crea
dibujos, impresiones, videos, poesía, fanzines, instalaciones y eventos que
exploran normas, sistemas e interacciones personales. Vive y trabaja en Dallas,
Texas. Junto a Daniel Bernard Gray, co-dirije Zosima
Gallery. Obtuvo
un B.A. en Teología en Criswell College y una Maestría en Artes Libres en el St.
John’s College. Hoy continúa una Maestría en Intermedia Studio en la Universidad
de Texas, Arlington.
The world is categorized into many dichotomies: good/bad, male/female,
liberal/conservative, known/unknown, etc. These binaries can be useful for making
quick decisions to feel safe and right, but they oversimplify reality. The
works presented in ABANDON/CONTROL respond to tensions caused by binary systems
of thought. Starting with found objects (nets, bags, yarn, texts) that
represent forms of containment and assigned roles, I apply transformational
processes (monoprinting, extracting) to create poetic expressions of
subversion, exploration and reinvention.
Billi London-Gray creates drawings, prints, videos, poetry, zines,
installations and events that explore rules, systems and personal
interactions. She lives and works in Dallas , Texas Criswell College and an M.A. in Liberal Arts from St. John’s
College Arlington
