100 Mil Homos Muertos.

The existence of a queer community is a fiction, yet one that suspends people in powerful webs of meaning, that creates individual members of the social world. But we can go further, we can invest in queer kinship, in family relations that refute rather than imitate the heternormative perogative of the reproductive family unit. Erotic sex magical invocations of the spirits of dead queer people link together participants in the video works. Queers from both ends tips of the hemisphere call out to dead queer cultural creators, sources of personal strenth and inspiration, and recreate queer kinship through the internet. And we leave offerings on the altar of our family's beloved ancestors. Our remembered dead. This project seeks to give depth and complexity to the development of contemporary queer identities and cultures. The troubles of projecting our modern understanding of who we are and who are our families cannot not easily be projected onto those in faraway times and cultures. We are left with eros and desire. Longing. Belonging. Because our kinship is a corporeal relation too, just like theirs, and our erotic power is the motor for our memory machine. And so we having sex with ghosts. This is, like all works of magic, a way to interact just a little bit more with the world around us.

JAMIE ROSS (1987, Canadá) / was born in a little house on Pendrith Street, just north of Toronto’s Christie Pits Park, above a buried river. That is the place where it began. Ross is an artist, filmmaker and writer. His writing has been anthologized and published in periodicals and zines; his award-winning film has screened on four continents. His work blurs the lines of fact and fiction in its exploration of history and preoccupation with societal projections into the future. Personal psychogeography and senses of place are abiding interests, central to his second written work, Fallow La Friche (2012). Creating and documenting queer community based on a sincere engagement with magic, grafting himself onto the rich artistic traditions of his ancestors, cultural and biological, is fundamental.

Erotic Realism
So I was in this dream right. In this dream I was at the base of an enormous mountain, and i found myself first looking down to my feet, sunken slightly into the rich brown earth and then up to the mountain dissapearing into the clouds.
Anyway, I remember at this point I was struck with the deepest sence of clarity I have ever known, and my core bent and swayed with pleasure under the weight of this heavy  mystic transparency.
All at once I realized that  there´s no meaning to anything other then the significance that we choose to allocate to it. And if life lacks meaning, one show simply invents a significant task and devote one´s life to it. Perhaps they why religion is so fabulously popular I mused. And so I decided on my task and began to climb the mountain.
The underbelly of my soft pink feet soon became raw and blistered but as I kept climbing they then grew into two thick calluses. I climbed for so long that my legs became muscular and sinewy but then started to break apart with age. I climbed this god forsaken mountain for so long, searching for its peak, that I eventually got old and died. But by that point time had knotted into a loop and wrapped around it and I was reborn, and infant, still shoeless and now naked, crawling up this infinite incline.
Anyway I went on and on, scarcely stopping for food or rest life time after life time. I occasionally looked back onto the expansive flat land that lay at the base if my monolith and watched oceans evaporate, only to be replaced with lush green jungles which would then be flattened to make room for great civilizations, so they too could fall.
Time passed like a wave and soon I felt it unessasery to reflect on existence before the mountain. And as though awaiting my concent, my mind erased all memory of life or love or language. All that was left was the steady thump of my feet and the rhythmic heaving of my own chest. By the time I reached the peak id lost all understanding of such a place even existing and I started making my way back down. I guess that´s  all I really remember.
